Warframe – 9 Best primary weapons for beginners

Boltor

The Boltor is a brilliant projectile based automatic rifle that is easy to craft and a lot of fun to play.

With a decent damage output, this weapon can take you through quite a few planets. The puncture damage it deals ignores a percentage of enemies armour and also has a bonus multiplier against armoured enemies. Any puncture procs that get applied will also reduce the targets attack for a number of seconds.

Hek

Another brilliant weapon. The Hek is a shotgun that will happily carry you through the entire start chart.

The Hek features a good status chance of 10.7% per pellet and fires 7 pellets without any multishot mods, making the gun a good choice for quickly stacking statuses on an enemy.

You can also find some handy mods for it too. Scattered justice for example is available after reaching a certain rank with the Steel meridian syndicate. While it may not be the best idea in the really early game, it’s a nice mod to work towards as it increases multishot, can heal you for 25% of your Warframe’s health and increases your Warframe’s armour for 30 seconds.

Dread

Available from MR 5, the Dread is a little unique because the blueprint for it can only be found as a drop from killing Stalker. This means that unfortunately you might not see this weapon for quite some time as Stalker can be quite… sporadic.

On the bright side though, with a 50% base crit chance, its one of the highest in the game. It also features a good status chance and a large amount of total damage is slash based, making it a great choice to stack statuses on tougher enemies.

Ignis

The little brother to the monstrous Ignis wraith flamethrower. Deals purely heat damage to any enemies in a cone shape, making it great for spraying into enemy groups.

Also has an impressive 27% base status chance to help quickly stack heat procs on enemies. Since the update to damage types, heat procs also deal Damage over Time and reduce an enemy’s armour, a good choice to quickly whittle down tough enemies.

For people that like spraying, the Ignis has a large magazine capacity of 150, allowing you to keep that fire going until you’re sure nothing’s left alive.

Tigris

A slash based shotgun with a somewhat unique firing method.

Unlike your usual shotguns, the Tigris uses a duplex firing system. This is set up so every click is two shells. One shell is fired on by pressing down the fire button, the second shell is fired by releasing the fire button.

Being able to quickly fire off two shells is a great way to quickly chunk health out of bosses, while managing your clicks gives you greater control against lesser enemies.

A 16.8% status chance per pellet and 5 pellets without any mods also means you’ll once again be able to apply statuses to enemies with a fair consistency.

Fulmin

Although it can be argued this isn’t technically a weapon for beginners, it would be wrong to not at least make a note of this incredible gun.

Available from MR 8, the fulmin is an electric shotgun. But its also an electric automatic rifle. Yep, with a single button, you can turn your short-range blaster into a low recoil long range rifle.

So the stats must be bad right, surely? Well, no. In shotgun mode, the Fulmin deals good damage, packs a 30% crit chance and forces an impact proc on any enemies it hits. In auto mode, it still has good damage and a 28% crit chance.

And it gets even better, the Fulmin has a magazine capacity of 60 without mods. But, it also an infinite ammo capacity, the weapon will regain ammo automatically after you stop firing for a brief time, making it a truly multipurpose gun.

Latron

Good news, if you’re at least MR 0, you can build and the Latron. A semi automatic rifle that excels at longer ranges.

Similar to the Boltor, the Latron deals primarily puncture damage, making it great against armoured enemies like the Grineer.

However, the Latron also comes with a Madurai polarity as standard in one of the mod slots. It’s effectively a free Forma and is really useful while levelling weapons up as any mods with a matching polarity placed in that slot will only use half the capacity it otherwise would have.

Paris

An improved version of the mk1-Paris you may have picked at the start. The Paris is a bow available to use from MR 3.

It features increased damage over its mk1 counterpart, again focusing on puncture. A reasonable 30% base crit chance per shot, and a pre installed Naramon polarity.

The Paris also has innate 2m punch through. The first enemy that gets hit will have the arrow pass straight through them and continue on for 2m, allowing each arrow to hit multiple enemies if they’re lined up correctly.

Vectis

Last but not least, we have the Vectis. A bolt action-esque sniper rifle with a lot of benefits.

Available from MR 3, the Vectis competes with snipers unlocked much later in the game, it deals high puncture and impact damage with a solid 25% crit chance. Plus, it comes with a pre loaded Madurai in a mod slot for a little extra boost.

It also has one of the highest status chances out of all the snipers in game at 30% and one of the quickest reloads too. Interestingly, it also doesn’t make you scope out to reload, its handled automatically, so you can stay sighted on the target.
